Salvestrols are often described as a “Natural Rescue System for the Body”
Salvestrols cannot be made in the body. They have to be supplied through our diet and to date, herbalists have identified Salvestrols in many organic fruits, vegetables and herbs. It is estimated that our modern diet contains 10 – 20% of the Salvestrols that it did 100 years ago.
Salvestrols act as a natural rescue mechanism, ensuring our cells function correctly
They are part of our everyday diet and always have been, so they are entirely safe
They are natural compounds found in fruit, vegetables and herbs
They are now grossly deficient in our diet.

The need for a salvestrol supplement:
Believing that a simple shift in diet may not have been enough for those fighting an active disease or for those at risk, Professor Potter and Herbalist Anthony Daniels researched the idea of a food supplement.
Through his worldwide contacts, Anthony sourced large volumes of organic fruit and pioneered a unique method of extracting and isolating Salvestrol from the thousands of other compounds.
Due to the success of this extraction, the proprietary brand name “Salvestrol” was born under the company “Natures Defence” making it possible to take Salvestrol as a food supplement for better health.

Can diet alone provide all our salvestrol needs?
For a number of reasons it is very unlikely to get sufficient intake of Salvestrol from modern foods. Even with a solely organic diet, there is no guarantee of adequate levels, as many modern fruit and vegetable varieties are low in Salvestrol. Differing food-growing locations, food growing methods and whether the food was fully ripe at harvest all have an effect.
Salvestrols are mostly found in the skin, peel or rind of fruit and vegetables and in the modern diet, this is the part of the fruit or vegetable least appealing and often not eaten. Many of the modern varieties of fruit and vegetables have been bred to be less bitter and this has meant that the often bitter salvestrol component has been reduced or removed.

Summary:
Salvestrols are a new class of natural phytonutrients which are found in plants and naturally eaten as part of a healthy diet. In the plant kingdom Salvestrols are manufactured by plants as part of a biochemical defence against pathogenic attack. However, as a result of modern farming techniques, plants do not need to mount their own internal defences and most commercial produce contains only small amounts of Salvestrols compared with their heritage and organic counterparts.
These natural phytonutrients were discovered by a team of scientists in 2002, spearheaded by two professors; Dan Burke and Gerry Potter, through their work at De Montfort University, School of Pharmacology in Leicester, England. Further investigation lead to the discovery of Salvestrols in plants and in specific varieties of organic produce. The unique action of Salvestrols inside the human body is described as a natural rescue mechanism that is essential to good health. It appears that Salvestrols are so important to the body that they escape the first attempt of removal by the liver – a process known as first pass metabolism.
Research indicates that organic foods contain 30 times more Salvestrols than food farmed under modern methods. When Professor Potter and herbalist Anthony Daniels looked at modern farming practices, the reasons for the depletion of Salvestrols in our diets became apparent; the introduction of mechanised farming over 100 years ago resulted in the need for fungicides, herbicides and pesticides; salvestrols are produced when the plants are under attack from pathogens. Another reason for the depletion of Salvestrols in our diet is that they all have a bitter taste and our modern palate demands sweeter tasting foods; consequently plants are now selectively bred for their sweetness. Another critical factor is that Salvestrols are found mainly in the skin, peel or rind of the fruit or vegetables, sadly these parts of the plant are often discarded.
